Project History

The City of Brooklyn Center’s Capital Improvement Plan identified a potential mill and overlay of 53rd Avenue from Penn Avenue to Lyndale Avenue. This project was scheduled for 2022. A letter was sent out in December of 2021 to inform residents of the project.

On January 24, 2022, the City Council ordered improvements and authorized the preparation of plans and specs for the project.

On March 4, 2022, sealed bids were opened for the 53rd Avenue Mill and Overlay project.  The City received numerous bids from qualified contractors. The contract will be awarded at the March 28, 2022 City Council meeting.

At its meeting on March 28, 2022, the City Council awarded the project to GMH Asphalt Corporation of Chaska, Minnesota. Construction is anticipated to start Spring 2022 and will be complete by October 2022. Monthly newsletters and construction updates will be added to this site to give information and reminders about the project.
