Chief Garett Flesland has served the Brooklyn Center community for over 24 years. He grew up in neighboring Brooklyn Park and after graduating from Park Center High School he served several years in the U.S. Navy, both as an enlisted sailor and as a commissioned officer.

Garett was hired by the city of Brooklyn Center in 2000 and served as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, and commander. While serving the Brooklyn Center community as a police commander, Garett spent time filling the role of public information officer (PIO) along with supervising the patrol, investigations, and community services divisions.

Chief Flesland holds a bachelor's in physics from Tulane University, master's in police leadership from the University of St. Thomas, received his law enforcement certificate at Alexandria Technical and Community College, and received the FBI National Academy certificate (session 289).
