Can my child wear a life jacket during open swim or swim lessons?
Coast Guard approved life jackets are permitted in the pool and wading pool. An adult must accompany child in the pool if they are wearing a life jacket.

At what age can a child swim in the pool without a supervising adult in the water with them?
50 meter pool: Ages 7 or older. An adult must be in the water and within an arms length of children ages 6 & younger.
Wading pool: Available for children age 6 and younger with adult supervision; children age 0-3 must have an adult in the water with them; children ages 4-6 must have an adult on the wading pool deck

Does my child need to wear a swim diaper in the pool?
Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper. Swim diapers are available to purchase at the customer service desk.

Is there a public swimming pool in Brooklyn Center?
Yes. Inside the community center there is a 50 meter indoor pool, 150' water slide and a zero depth entry wading pool.

Fitness Center
The fitness center features cardiovascular equipment, resistance training and free weights available to use by those ages 15+ (14 with supervision of a parent or guardian). All users of the fitness center are recommended to complete a fitness center orientation. Shirt and athletic shoes are required.
Group Fitness
Work out on land or in the water! Adult and youth group fitness are offered year round. All of our Fitness Classes are now FREE to members. Land fitness classes will now be hybrid where you have the option to attend in-person or access the class from your computer anywhere. Classes listed in the brochure are subject to change.
Pool
Swim laps, float around, dive or slide into the 50-meter heated indoor swimming pool. Adult swim, open swim, aqua fitness and events are scheduled weekly. A zero depth entry wading pool is available to youth ages 0-5. Showering is required to enter the pool. Parents/guardians are required to be in the water with children under the age of 7 and to be within arm’s reach at all times.
Amenities
A 150’ water slide (must be 52" or taller), diving boards, all gender sauna (18+), and use of locker rooms are included in memberships, punch cards and daily admissions. Lockers are available for 25¢.

Insurance Reimbursements
Insurance reimbursement for memberships now offered at the Brooklyn Center Community Center through NIHCA.
Adult members of the Brooklyn Center Community Center may participate and can receive up to a $20 reimbursement of monthly membership dues.
Reimbursement is offered through multiple health insurance providers, determine eligibility and enroll online at NIHCArewards.org or in person at the Brooklyn Center Community Center: 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway.

CHILD: Ages 5 & older
Children may be tested the first day to assure correct swim level. Average ratio 5 students/instructor. Parents do not accompany child in water.
Evaluation Class:
Looking to sign up your child and do not know what level they would be? Sign up to have your child evaluated by our instructor and have your child placed in the right class at the start of the session. Encouraged for all new participants.
Level 1:
Introduces floating, kicking, gliding arm & leg action & breath control. Focus on becoming safe & comfortable in water & work on beginner skills.
Level 2:
Introduces fundamentals of front crawl & elementary backstroke. Must pass level 1 or able to float on their front & back for 3-5 seconds.
Level 3:
Builds on skills of level 2. Focus on stroke development as participants learn to survival float, swim front crawl, diving skills, & elementary backstroke. Scissors & dolphin kicks introduced. Learn fundamentals of treading water.
Level 4:
Breaststroke, butterfly, front crawl, back crawl, backstroke, & safety skills. Learn scissors kick & develop endurance. Must be able to swim 30 meters - front crawl & elementary backstroke.
Level 5:
Must pass level 4 or swim 50 meters - front crawl, elementary backstroke & demonstrate sidestroke. Refine key strokes flip turns, & dives.
Level 6:
Must swim 25 meters - breaststroke, sidestroke, back crawl, butterfly; 75 meters-front & elementary backstroke. Focus on completing 500 meters of continuous swimming using all strokes.
AQUA TOTS
BABY & ME:
Ages 1-2. A fun class that introduces toddlers to the water. Parent must accompany child in water. Child must wear a swim diaper. Limit 8 participants/class
LIL’ TOTS: Level A:
Ages 3-5. Child is introduced to basic skills, safety & fun in the water. Limit 4 participants/class. Parents do not accompany child in water.
LIL’ TOTS: Level B:
Ages 3-5. Designed to continue to challenge and increase skills. Take Lil Tots Level B after completing Level A. Limit 4 participants/class. Parents do not accompany child in water.
SPECIALTY AQUATICS
TEEN:
Ages 11-18 Designed for beginners. Build your confidence in the water. Focus is on individual needs.
PRIVATE:
Ages 5 & Older Improve stroke techniques, conquer fear of water, gain confidence, or focus on skills! Designed to meet the individual needs of you or your

Attend group fitness classes with a membership or a punch card.
Fitness classes will be offered in hybrid format with in-person and virtual options. Virtual fitness classes will be delivered via Zoom. To register for the virtual class option, please call the Brooklyn Center Community Center front desk at 763-569-3400. The link will be emailed the morning of the class to ensure the security of the virtual class. If you are not on the roster, a link will not be sent. Classes will be sign up on a day by day basis to allow people to sign up for certain days of the week or of different weeks.
About Zoom… It is free to use. When you receive the link for the program in your email, simply click the link and follow the prompts to join. You are not required to have a camera to participate in class but it is highly recommended to participate. All you need is access to email and internet. You can access the class via your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Classes we offer...
SILVERSNEAKERS® – CLASSIC
A variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
STRENGTH TRAINING
Fit or unfit, experienced or beginner, older adults can benefit from resistance training. This class can improve muscular strength and power, build and protect bone mass, and increase joint stability. Use a variety of resistance tools and a chair for safety. Modifications are offered for different abilities.
ZUMBA®
This dance-based high-energy class for average healthy adults fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves. Zumba® is a great workout while helping to build muscle tone and cardiovascular endurance. Wear cross training or aerobic style shoes & comfortable clothes.
PILATES
Pilates is for every one of every age! Pilates is a non-impact and safe exercise to help each person build length and strength in their whole body. Pilates will help you become the best version of yourself!
CREATIVE MOVEMENTS
Do not know what exercises you can do while at home? Join us for this wellness class focused on the movements and exercises that anyone can do in any setting. This class works on flexibility, balance and overall wellness. Enjoy the comfort of your home, park, or wherever you would like to exercise. You will need a sturdy chair and yard stick for the class.
STRENGTH AND BALANCE
Want to increase your strength and balance? This class covers a variety of exercises designed to improve muscular strength, balance, and range of motion. Bring your water bottle, aerobic style shoes, and comfortable clothes.
AFRO-BEATS DANCE WORKOUT
It’s time for some Afro style dancing (Afro body movements). Learn different ways to move your body to some great music from the motherland. Perfect for participants who want an energizing fun way to be fit and active. Learn invigorating routines which include traditional and contemporary West African dance moves including Igbo dances, Azonto, Ndombolo and more. This is an exciting way to get some cardio and strength training exercises into your routine.
KICKBOXING
This class will combine both great skills and technique in showing the basics of the art of kickboxing from learning the punches and the kicks. Then learning to put them together in fast paced worked burning calories and learning a skill at the same time.
YOGA
Yoga anytime, anywhere. These classes are designed for beginner and experienced students that want to enjoy a fun way to incorporate hatha yoga on and off the mat. The goal of these classes is to allow students to learn basic sequences the name of poses to help them build their own knowledge while taking a yoga class.
AQUA FIT
Water power! Join this invigorating high-energy class, which includes a warm up, cardio and full body toning. You are encouraged to participate in the intensity level that suits you best. It’s 50 minutes of pure aqua aerobic fun!
AQUA SHALLOW & DEEP WATER COMBO
Our “combo” class combines warm up, stretching, aerobic exercise and strength training for a full body workout. The class is designed for all fitness levels and can be easily modified for a lower or higher intensity workout.
WATER AEROBICS
This class takes place in the shallow end of the pool, using the buoyancy of water to lessen the impact on your joints. You can expect a variety of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) intervals, plyometrics and strength work for the upper and lower body in this effective, low-impact class. Open to all ability levels. No swim experience required.

BIRTHDAY PARTY PACKAGE INCLUDES:
· Pool admission for all guests in your party (maximum of 25 for room capacity) Children must be 52” to use the water slide. Children under the age of 7 must have an adult within arm’s reach at all times when in the water. Appropriate swimwear is required in the swimming pool. No water wings are allowed.
· Party room for 2 hours.
PARTY ROOM DETAILS:
· When making a reservation, you are reserving a specific time for the party room. The room limit is 25 people. You may use the pool before and after the party room rental during open swim.
· Commercially prepared cake, ice cream, deli sandwiches, salads, or pizza are allowed. Homemade food items and colored beverages are not permitted. Food is only allowed in the party room. Bring a cooler if needed. Freezers and refrigerators are not available.
PARTY AVAILABILITY:
· Making your reservation at least three days in advance assures you can reserve the date and time that works with your schedule. Reservations can be made Monday through Friday between 9am-4pm.
- Residents pay a $75 non-refundable payment plus a $100 cleaning/damage deposit. Non-residents pay a $82 non-refundable payment plus a $100 cleaning/damage deposit. Both the fee and deposit are due at the time of reservation.
- Adult making reservation is responsible for supervising the party. Room limit 25 including supervising adults, children and babies.

Constitution Hall
(3,725 sq. ft.) is located on the lower level with adjacent kitchen facilities. The room has seating for 150 theater style, 84 in a classroom setting, or 150 for a banquet function. Kitchen has two convection warming ovens, commercial refrigerator (no freezer), three sinks, and commercial coffee urns.
Kitchen cannot be rented separately.

Cohen Community Room
(1,190 square feet) is located on the upper level with adjacent kitchen facilities. The room can seat 70 theater style, 33 in a classroom arrangement, or 52 for a banquet function. The room is accessible by stairs or elevator. Kitchen has limited availability and it includes a commercial refrigerator (no freezer), sink, and commercial coffee urns. Commercially prepared foods only.
Kitchen cannot be rented separately.

Room 221
This room is located on the upper level and is great for smaller parties and meetings as it holds a maximum of 25 people. The setup for the room is as pictured. There is no kitchen access. Commercially prepared foods only. (This room is available on a limited basis.)

Arts & Crafts Room

Brooklyn Center was chosen as one of 69 youth programs from the USA Swimming Foundation’s nationwide network of swim lesson providers to receive grant money in early 2023. The grant award will go toward Brooklyn Center’s continued efforts to provide free swim lessons. The USA Swimming Foundation has awarded a total of $647,522 to programs across the country.
Brooklyn Center is offering free swim lessons for those signing up for Baby and Me, Lil’ Tot 1 & 2, and Level 1 classes who haven’t taken swim lessons before. For more information or to register, please call the Brooklyn Center Community Center at 763-569-3400.
