The City of Brooklyn Center must comply with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, a State Law (Minnesota Statutes, Section 13.03, Subd. 2 and 13.05, Subd. 5 and 8) that classifies all information or data collected, created, received, maintained, or disseminated by governmental entities. Under the Act, all records collected and maintained by the City are considered public unless otherwise classified by a State or Federal Law. Data that is classified as nonpublic or private by law cannot be released such as health data on individuals, complainants of real property, etc.
