Public Records
Since 1987 Brooklyn Center has followed the State’s General Records Retention Schedule. The retention schedule follows City, State, and Federal regulations for preserving records. The City uses Laserfiche as its electronic record imaging system specifically geared toward records management. Many City records are scanned and imported into Laserfiche and available online for public access through Laserfiche WebLink.
Using Laserfiche WebLink
Read the following instructions prior to accessing Laserfiche WebLink. You will be able to return to these instructions from Laserfiche WebLink by clicking on the instructions button at the top right page in WebLink.
To browse records, click on browse. Click on a folder to open the folders or records within that folder. Continue opening folders until you find the record for which you are looking. Most records are named with the year first and then the month and date. (i.e. click on the City Council folder and more folders open for you to choose either agenda packets, minutes, resolutions, etc. You can then open these folders to access more records)
Example: If you are looking for City Council minutes for March 8, 2010, Regular Session, click on City Council, then Minutes, then 2010-2019, then 2010, then 2010 03-08 CCM Regular Session Laserfiche records are scanned to an image format that can be indexed and searched online. Printing these records requires that the pages be converted to a PDF format.
To search for a record using a specific word or phrase, click on search. This will provide you with complete directions on the types of searches that can be performed via WebLink.
To print, search, or scroll through a record, you must convert it to a PDF format first. Click on the PDF icon at the top of the page navigation to start the process.
Troubleshooting
A help button is located at the top right of the Laserfiche WebLink home page.
If a record doesn't open as a PDF, be sure your browser is enabled to "accept pop-ups."
Some records are very large, and the system may only convert up to 500 pages to PDF at one time. If a record is more than 500 pages, the conversion will create multiple PDFs. This process is slower than a regular print function as the conversion to PDF takes several seconds for each page.
