Found Pets

All animals must be brought in to PUPS facility by an officer, they can't take in any pets directly from the public. If you have found a stray pet, please contact 9-1-1 to have it picked up. An owner will be best able to find their pet if it is being held at the impound facility for the city it was lost in. They may not even think to check with other organizations (like Animal Humane Society) and may not be reunited with their pet.

All stray pets are held for five business days. Any unclaimed pet will then be made available for transfer to an approved rescue organization, PUPS is unable to do any adoptions. If you are interested in adopting a pet at our facility you can click the following link to get the document with contact info for the approved rescues that are willing to help you foster or adopt a pet that is currently at PUPS: https://bit.ly/3f2r01X  You will need to go through their approval process for fostering/adopting a pet. We cannot guarantee availability of adopting an unclaimed pet at our facility - they are available to the approved rescues on a first come basis.

Missing Pets

PUPS shares photos of incoming strays on their  PUPS Facebook page as quickly as they can, but they may not always get shared the day they arrive at the facility. PUPS now has an online form you can fill out and submit:   https://forms.gle/6Skaux8LfJq6Mpt37. After filling out the form, please be sure to email a picture to the link on the submission confirmation page at the end of the form. You can also call (763) 494-5999 to report your missing pet if you prefer.

Reclaim Your Pet

PUPS charges the cities it serves a $34 flat fee per calendar day per animal. Brooklyn Center Police Department in turn requires the appropriate fee(s) to be paid in person at the Brooklyn Center Police Department prior to providing the release form for the animal.

To reclaim your pet that was found in Brooklyn Center, bring the following items to our office before going to the impound facility:

  • Valid driver's license or state issued identification card.
  • Pay the impound and board fees (cash; exact change if possible).

You will need to bring the release paperwork that you receive from our office to PUPS. Your pet cannot be released without this paperwork.
