Am I allowed to have facial hair?

Employees are allowed to have facial hair under the following conditions:
• Mustaches must be short and trimmed and not to exceed below the corners of the mouth.
• Goatees shall be worn with a mustache with the jaw and neck line cleanly shaven.
• Beards must be worn with a mustache, must not be longer than ½ inch and must even and not patchy.
• Sideburns must not extend below the bottom of the ear.

Employees may be required to shave for special events or while in Class “A” uniform.
Am I required to pay for my uniforms and equipment?

No; regardless of the position within the department you apply for all uniforms and equipment will be paid for by the City.
Are dutch elm disease and oak wilt a problem in Brooklyn Center?

The City of Brooklyn Center continues to lose hundreds of trees every year due to these two diseases. At this time, no actions can be taken to completely prevent these diseases from affecting our community forest. How can I cancel my on-line police report? I found the items I thought were stolen.

The report is a permanent record and cannot be cancelled. However, you should update your case with that information. Please submit a supplemental report using the case number that was assigned to your case or you can call (763) 569-3333.
Will my case be investigated?

Each Brooklyn Center Police Department case is reviewed by an investigator. Those cases that have enough leads for an investigator to follow up on will be pursued. Every approved case is documented and kept on file. They will be used to help us track crime and patterns in your neighborhood.
I have more information to add to my existing on-line report. How do I do that?

Please email the Support Services (Records) Division with your permanent case number and the information you wish to add.
What kind of information do I need to put in my online report?

Please enter as much detail as you can. If you have the serial number of any property that was lost or stolen, please enter it in the “Incident Description” section. The serial number is very important for us to identify any property we may recover.
If the incident happened on an interstate or freeway, can I file a report using this online citizen reporting system?

No, the interstates/freeways are not in the jurisdiction of the Brooklyn Center Police Department. Please call Minnesota State Patrol at (651) 582-1511.
If the incident happened in another city, can I file a report using this online citizen reporting system?

No. If a crime took place outside of Brooklyn Center, please call the police department for that city.

What crimes can I report online?

Online reporting exceptions.

If the need to file a police report aligns with an example below, you will not be able to file an online police report; you will instead need to call 911 and ask to speak with a Brooklyn Center Police Officer to file the police report.

The value of property stolen or damaged exceeds $1,000.
The property lost or stolen is a firearm, watercraft, trailer, vehicle, license plate, or other serialized item(s) to be entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
The incident to be reported is currently in progress.
The alleged incident involves the theft of identity.
The alleged incident involves theft by someone physically taking something from a person.
The alleged incident did not occur in Brooklyn Center.
The alleged incident occurred on a highway or freeway.
The alleged incident is believed to be hate or biased based.
The alleged suspect(s) in the incident is known.
The victim was injured as a result of the incident.
The alleged incident involves elements that support an officer's physical response to the scene.

What happens after I file an online report?

When your online report is completed you should see the "Your online report has been submitted" message.
After your online report has been submitted, you will receive an email and be given a temporary transaction number. This is your confirmation number and not your official police report number.
Your online report will be reviewed within 72 hours. The department will either contact you requesting additional information or approve your report.
If your report is approved, you will receive an email with the official police report case number. Please retain this report number; it is the official police case number to use when referencing your report.
