Can I report a crime here and remain anonymous?

Crime Stoppers of Minnesota provides a safe place for citizens to provide anonymous information about crime and fugitives. Brooklyn Center Police partners with Crime Stoppers to investigate anonymous tips they receive. If the information you provided leads to a felony arrest, you may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 through Crime Stoppers.

Your contact with Crime Stoppers is anonymous. Information can be shared with Crime Stoppers via phone, online, or through a mobile app.

Do I need a permit to solicit or peddle goods in the City of Brooklyn Center?
A solicitor's or peddler's permit is not required from the city. However, it is recommended that you provide the information listed below to the Brooklyn Center Police Department on your company's letterhead:
- Contact number
- Dates and times
- License plate numbers of vehicles used
- Names of the solicitors
- Photo ID for a representative of the company and each individual that will be soliciting or peddling in Brooklyn Center
Out-of-state persons must contact Hennepin County at 612-348-8240 for a transient merchant permit. Food merchants must contact the Minnesota Department of Agriculture at 651-201-6315 for food license requirements.
Do I need to obtain a license for my dog?

Licenses are not required for pets in the City of Brooklyn Center. However, ID / information tags are required by city ordinance and can be purchased at pet shops or some veterinarian offices. A person who owns, harbors, or keeps a dog over 6 months old within the city must securely attach an identification tag or plate to the dog's collar so that it can be readily seen. The tag or plate must contain the name and home telephone number of the owner or other person who is keeping the dog. The identification tag or plate must be worn by the dog at all times when it is off the owner's or keeper's property.

The Brooklyn Center Police Department receives items citizens have found and turned over to the police department on a daily basis. There are some cases where our staff cannot identify and/or locate the rightful owner; however, we use a significant number of resources to locate the owner and many found items are returned to the rightful owner. Some of the most common items turned in include: keys, wallets, purses, jewelry, cell phones, and backpacks.

Found/Lost Property

If you have lost something in the City of Brooklyn Center and would like to check if someone turned it in to the police department, follow the steps below:

Provide your first and last name, phone and email.
Provide the date/time/place the item was last seen.
Describe the item in as much detail as possible; A few examples: make, model, serial, color, any damage, scratches, tears, anything that makes your lost item unique from others.
Attach any photo(s) you have of the item. (optional)
Proof of ownership (receipt, phone bill, photos of the item, password to unlock phone/laptop, etc.) (optional)

ReportIt is provided to Brooklyn Center residents because the Brooklyn Center Police Department wants you to be prepared in the event of a theft or loss. It's a proactive tool that allows you to easily catalog information about your valuables. This includes serial numbers, owner applied numbers, photos of property and scans of receipts. It's completely internet based, so you never have to worry about losing the data you have saved.

How much does ReportIt cost?

ReportIt is free and available to residents in the jurisdictions LeadsOnline serves such as Brooklyn Center, and each account may store up to 100 items. If you need additional storage, just email citizen@leadsonline.com. Corporate and small business accounts are available upon request.

Anything of value – think about collectibles, jewelry, electronics, machinery, lawn equipment, and even designer clothes and handbags.

Are the police able to search the information I store in ReportIt?

No, your information can only be accessed using your username and password. Should your property go missing, you'll be able to print the information from any computer with internet access and give it to your detective.

How can I help spread the word about ReportIt in my community?
