Police Explorers is a program for teens and young adults between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age. The Explorer Program teaches members various aspects of Law Enforcement as well as core values of teamwork, dedication, and service to others. If you are interested in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement or want to learn more about our program, contact us for more information.

In order to join the post, you must:

  • Have completed 8th grade
  • Be 14-21 years old
  • Submit an application to join
  • Pass a background check
  • Maintain a C average or better

Participate in law enforcement training that will grant you the opportunity to participate in the State Police Explorers Conference held every April and compete against other agency explorers.

Our recruitment window is September 1 through October 15 every year. After passing a background check, applicants must interview with members and police advisors. If selected after the interview, you will become a probationary member for 12 weeks. In addition to weekly training during the school year, the Brooklyn Center Police Explorers assist with a variety of events held in and near our city.

In the past, explorers have completed over 180 hours of community service in the past at activities such as:

  • Law Enforcement Special Olympics events (Polar Plunge, Torch Run, Cop on Top, etc.)
  • Assist with traffic control for Brooklyn Center and neighboring city community events, parades and celebrations.
  • Assist with awards ceremonies and more!
