Brooklyn Center Narrows Search for Permanent Police Chief

(BROOKLYN CENTER, MN – May 13, 2022) – The City of Brooklyn Center is closer to hiring a new chief of police and on Monday, May 16, 2022, from 5:30PM to 7:00PM residents will have a chance to meet the finalist, selected from among a national search leading to 15 inquiries, 10 applications, 4 semi-finalists and 2 finalists for the position. City Manager Dr. Reginald Edwards announced the two finalist are Robbinsdale Area School District Director of Security/Former Emergency Communications Director for the City of Minneapolis Kathy Hughes and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant (Courts) Kellace McDaniel.

Those interested in attending the virtual community Meet and Greet with the final candidates on Monday, May 16, 2022, may do so by joining the ZOOM Meeting at the link listed below. The purpose of this event is to continue engaging residents in the hiring process. Community participants will receive an introduction of the candidates, and hear responses to a few prepared questions for the candidates.  Questions will also be collected from those attending the in-person event, and may be read to candidates as time permits, if selected.  This event is one of a series of steps taken in this comprehensive six-month search and hiring process. 

The Meet and Greet will be facilitated by Mr. Michael Jordan and John Fennig, PhD., LP, of DRI Consulting.  Following the Meet and Greet, DRI Consulting will provide a community feedback report to the City Manager, which will be used in the final hiring selection by the City Manager.
