Regulations
The City of Brooklyn Center requires the licensing of Mechanical Contractors as defined in Chapter 23, Section 23-1500 of its Ordinance. The State of Minnesota also requires a $25,000 bond for mechanical contractors.
- No person shall install, alter, reconstruct, or repair any portion of a building mechanical system consisting of heating, ventilating, comfort cooling, or refrigeration equipment, including any gas piping incidental thereto, without first having procured a license from the City of Brooklyn Center. Licenses shall be issued only to individuals or contractors who demonstrate an understanding of the laws and regulations and techniques relating to the installation and maintenance of building mechanical systems. The license period is May 1 through April 30. The annual license fee for a mechanical contractors license is $60.

License Approval
Upon the Community Development Department's receipt of a completed mechanical contractors license application, appropriate license fee, proof of Workers’ Compensation Insurance Coverage form, and Minnesota Business Tax Identification Number form, the license application shall be presented to the City Council for consideration at its next regular meeting. The City Council meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month. License materials must be submitted at least seven (7) days prior to a City Council meeting.
