If you are a developer or a homeowner, start your construction project off on the right foot. Call the Community Development Department to schedule a pre-design meeting or, if you have questions, about construction regulations.

The Building Division reviews plans and construction work for building, plumbing, mechanical, fire suppression, water and sewer, and sign permit applications to ensure compliance with City ordinances and State Building and Fire Codes. Electrical permits are also administered through the City.

Apply for Permits Online

Through the on-line permitting process, permits are now available. Permits can also be emailed to communitydevelopment@brooklyncentermn.gov Customers can pay for permits with a credit card over the phone. Once the process is complete, the customer will receive an email with the permit and inspection record card attached, which should be printed and displayed at the job site.

Search for Permits, Inspection Results and View Scheduled Inspections

In addition to obtaining permits on-line, a search by permit number, address or contractor name can be done to view the following:

  • Permits Issued
  • Inspection results for a permit
  • View scheduled inspections for a permit

These new features are available to the general public including Prospective Buyers/Homeowners, Real Estate Agents, Insurance Companies, Title Companies, Contractors and Current Residents/Homeowners.

Permit Refunds

For permit fee refund requests please fill out the Fee Refund Form.

  • There shall be no refund of any permit fee collected when the work has been abandoned or permit is canceled after start.
  • For permits canceled after issuance, where no authorized work has been done, a refund of 80% of the permit fees collected may be granted; in no case shall the fees retained exceed $150.
  • Plan review fees are not refundable.
  • State surcharge fees are not refundable.
  • All claims for refunds shall be made in writing by the original permittee and shall be made within 180 calendar days from the payment of said fees.
  • ALL REFUNDS ARE PENDING BUILDING OFFICIAL APPROVAL
